Each month we introduce you to a different member of the OV team. We find out what makes them tick, and what excites them most about their role in the world of mobile and IoT connectivity.
This month, we’ve been speaking with a true stalwart of OV. Dan Walker is a real people person who loves to engage with customers and develop new relationships with them. A typically friendly northern lad, he’s also a long-suffering Sheffield United supporter.
As Business Development Manager, I’m responsible for finding and developing relationships with new and prospective customers. My role involves understanding in detail what a potential partner needs in order to be successful, and then bringing together the important parts of the OV team to make this a reality.
How long have you worked for Manx Telecom/OV?
I’ve been at OV since July 2018. I’d previously work for Manx Telecom for ten years. I took a two-year break to work for the Digital Agency at the Isle of Man Department for Enterprise. It was a real pleasure to return to the Manx Telecom family.
Speaking of achievements, what’s been your highlight to date?
Professionally, having worked across multiple teams within Manx Telecom, there have been a lot of highs along the way. I was involved in launching the first BlackBerry service on the island, and then in growing Manx Telecom’s egaming customer base and promoting their services globally. Personally, I’d have to say the biggest highlight was the birth of my son Jack who was born in June 2020. He’s a real character already!
What most excites you about what the future holds for OV?
We’re at the start of an exciting journey with our new brand. The opportunities it offers us are endless. The world of connectivity and how it’s consumed are constantly changing. If we take our eSIM solutions as an example, these are already generating lots of interest, and I think this will deliver some exciting projects for us.
And the best thing about working for OV?
The people. OV has grown over the last 15 years and at the core of this growth is the people behind the brand. It has a real family feel to it – no matter what the situation, everyone chips in to make sure the job gets done.
And if you were not part of the OV journey, what would you be doing?
There’s a little village somewhere in the South of France that’s calling for me to open a little bar. I’m sure of it!
